our Story

Kabisa was born out of Vics' love for Kenya and Tanzania, having lived and worked there since 2008. She started off by leading expeditions which included carrying out social and environmental impact projects with a local workforce, focusing on wildlife conservation, sustainable livelihoods, education and health.

Whilst leading the expeditions, Vics worked alongside Rosie who was integral to conceptualising many of those projects. Always with a beaming smile and deep wisdom beyond her years, she became Vics’ closest friend in Kenya. Together they have built a deep and resilient friendship where trust and laughter are at the forefront.

It was through their relationship that Vics learnt about the huge challenges for farming families, such as Rosie's, who live in the migration corridor of Kenya’s Tsavo East and West National Parks. During working in this environment, Vics also worked with an inspirational woman, respectfully known as Mama Mercy.

A community leader and staunch supporter of Women’s rights, over the years, Vics and Mama Mercy have developed a strong bond which inspired the beginnings of Kabisa.

Now living and working in Zanzibar, Vics met another incredible woman who has become a  great friend. Aida is a natural connector and creative entrepreneur, and together they would spend hours learning from each other. These discussions greatly impacted Kabisa’s foundations and principles.

‘Ka-bee-sah’ is a term of acknowledgement, frequently used in KiSwahili, the national  language of Kenya and Tanzania, as a way of expressing complete agreement. Direct translations of ‘Kabisa’ are: completely, absolutely or wholeheartedly. Mama Mercy, Rosie, Aida and Vics’ beliefs and values align perfectly in unison, and are the essence of what Kabisa is built on.
